Nurse's Corner
Brenda Porter MS, BSN, RN, CSN. I am a Certified School Nurse, graduated from East Orange High School and have had the pleasure of working in the East Orange School District for 20 years. I am married with 3 children. I started my nursing career working in the Surgical Intensive care unit of Sibley Memorial Hospital in Washington DC after graduating from Georgetown University School of Nursing. I worked there for 15 years before returning to my home town where I worked at East Orange General Hospital and East Orange High School. I continued my education receiving school nurse certification (1995) and a Master of Science in Health Education from New Jersey City University (2006). Afterward I received a certificate of Supervision in Education from Kean University (2009). I have enjoyed working with the students
as advisor to several clubs, mentoring programs, and as cheerleader coach.
I am President of the New Jersey State School Nurses Association and a member of several other professional associations. I like taking advantage of teachable moments. My favorite quote: You can't educate people that are not healthy. But you certainly can't keep them healthy if they're not educated.” Dr. Jocelyn Elders, 15th Surgeon General of
The United States of America.
